Jimi at a glance
About Jimi

I’m Jimi Mahonen, a law and economics student from Turku. I have a strong background in student politics. My work experience ranges from supermarket checkouts and sports coaching to university work. I currently work alongside my studies and am active in the Student Union of the University of Turku, as well as representing students on various university bodies. In 2024 I served on the TYY board, which also brought me into decision-making in the city and the Regional Council of Southwest Finland.
I believe everyone has the opportunity to pursue their dreams. Working within the university has also taught me that nobody makes difficult decisions out of malice or to make anyone’s life worse. Decisions are made so that things can be better in the future. The world would look bleak if everyone thought only of their own interests here and now. We need patience, responsibility and bold ideas. You have to bake the cake before you can eat it!
I stood in the municipal election so that everyone would have the opportunity to stay in Turku after their studies and pursue their dreams.
Language skills
Finnish, English, Swedish, Spanish, Italian, German and French.
I lived in England when I was younger, which is why I speak and write English fluently. In upper secondary school I studied Spanish for three years in the Finnish A2 syllabus. I have completed university Italian studies at B2 level, and studied French for several years in the A2 syllabus at comprehensive school. At university I have also worked as a simultaneous interpreter in English.
